Ah, version 5 progress. Let’s see where we’re at. Well, I ended up sick.. AGAIN but things have moved along. I've been mostly concentrating on the design for new characters, on how they create a character and are introduced into the game and I’m getting really close to beginning coding on that part of it (I take that back, started on it today!). I’m big on the design aspect of a feature rather than jumping in and coding it. Not only does it give Tynian a chance to make sure I’m on the right track before I put a lot of work into it but I find it essential for just getting my thoughts straight on a bigger project like this before trying to dive into the changes. Many (actually almost everyone!) wouldn't call it a proper “design”, it certainly doesn't include flow charts and such, but it’s something that works well for me. I even run my quests in the same way. It begins with a large number of point form notes consisting of all the things I’m trying to accomplish and achieve. From there I build out each of the points into a real and useful description of the feature and reviewing existing code to figure out how things fit together and anything else the changes I’m thinking of might impact. There is also, usually near the end, a statement of the philosophy and the intent of what I’m trying to create. I’m not perfect but it’s a method that works well for me to get these big projects done

As an aside from that…

Aoide’s Immortal Appreciate Weekend was a lot of fun and the amount of work she put into it was impressive! On my side, I put a lot of effort into making the Gleeman mob one of the most interesting I’ve done so far. It responded to not only current Immortals but all of the Immortals from our pantheon, even the deleted ones. Did anyone find the secret Rubber Duckie prize? Find the special tribute to Cerebus?

Boromir had his first mud-wide quest in full swing a few weeks ago too, I thought it cute to make the sprites teleport away to try and control full scale abuse from higher levels on the smaller sprites. It didn’t work quite perfectly but it was close! I did find quite a few small things I’d like to improve in the quest mob system but I’m still doing my best to hold off changes and get v5 complete first!
