Long Winding Roads

Greetings, loyal players... and the rest of you, too!

I really should leave the comedy to the professionals. But, hey, why should I let that stop me?

So... I am here to confess. I have not worked much on version 5 over the past few months. Real life has kept me quite busy. In addition to family time, I've been putting in a lot of extra hours at my Clark Kent job.

I have not been feeling it creatively, either.

Fortunately, we are blessed with a Natilena, who has been working hard on the next major version of TFC and making good progress. She's a good reminder than I need to get back into it, so we can get it done. And I've been feeling more energetic and ready to get back to it, so that's good. There is still a long way to go on it. Thank you for your continued patience.

Natilena found and configured a replacement client for playing TFC from the web site. It has a tendency to stop responding (probably by a server side process that quits working correctly), so it is not ready for prime time, but if you want to check it out, it can be found here: . As I warned, it won't connect sometimes. I like it a whole lot more than java client we offer to play from the web site.

Over the last few months, Soloban, Boromir, and Cordir (twice!) have built and submitted areas for everyone's enjoyment. Thanks to them, TFC is better than it was. Tokugawa and Tamar have worked diligently with them and anyone else interested in writing areas for TFC, providing technical and editorial assistance, as well as actually installing the areas.

We have a need for more modern area writing tools. This is something I haven't really wanted to do myself. It makes sense to have a web-based area building platform, and web development is not one of my strong suits. A couple of people have expressed interest in developing a web area writing tool. I hope something comes of it!

I am in the process of moving the web sites to a different server. There are several reasons for this, but one advantage is that the web sites should be up even when the TFC server itself is unreachable. Unfortunately, I've also been fighting with some issues with the migrated web sites. Completing this work has been my most recent focus.

I hope that everyone is doing well.
