So... The Vigilance Lyrical has long been a mystery for bards. I currently have it memorized at level 30... but have no clue what it does. Here's some things we know it does NOT do, based on testing, which was performed both with low level and high level characters.

It DOES NOT ...
* know alignment
* detect magic
* detect hidden
* detect sneaking
* prevent Obscure by Ordained class
* prevent theft (Thanks for the demo, Ink. :P)
* prevent backstab (ow, Cresom, you hit hard!)
* It does not prevent Blindness or Blynd (thank you, Dez, for testing)
* Assist with seeing items in foggy rooms

I was NOT wearing a True Seeing amulet when I learned the lyrical, and remove it for all testing.

If anyone has other ideas that we can test, that would be awesome, as I'm running out of ideas. :)

It also does not allow you to see Mobs, Objects, or PCs in Darkened rooms.

Suggestions Tested today (After Learning it for the second time at level 50, also with my TS removed during learning)

* It does not give additional information for CONSIDER.
* It does not allow you to see what is going on around you while you sleep.

* Double checked sneak / hide - does not reveal Bels when he sneaks/hides
* Double checked invis - Could not see Bels (50) with a non-pumped invis, or Mantle (Ma:9)
* Double checked auras - could not see Sai's aura (he worships DC)

What about effects like poison and disease?

It does not appear to grant any information on whether or not a food or drink substance is poisoned or if a player is diseased.
It also doesn't give any indicators as to the nearby presence of snow... :(

But does it protect you from disease or poison?

This might help: when a lyrical is learned, the bard gets a message that gives a hint as to the effect of the lyrical. Maybe another bard can help me out with the exact wording, but when the vigilance lyrical is learned, the message is something like, "You feel your perceptions tingle." So that is the main reason the focus has been on things similar to detects and TS. Since we really don't know, there's no reason an idea like immunity couldn't be it, but the thought is that it probably has something to do with information perceived.

Perhaps I missed the exclusion already but I wonder if it prevents being slept.

It helps you see people arrive and leave if they are sneaking.
